Week ending 27th May 2022

Our Platinum Jubilee Celebrations

On the last day of term, Thursday 26th May, the whole school celebrated the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. We were invited to wear 1950s inspired outfits to school to reflect the decade that the Queen was crowned in.

Nursery celebrated in tiaras and crowns they had made earlier in the week, and they enjoyed a special snack time.

Later, Reception through to Year 3 celebrated in a traditional Jubilee Street Party at lunchtime. The staff and Year 3 worked hard to decorate and furnish the hallway with one long table with place settings for over 100 children! Union flag bunting was hung the length of the corridor and every piece of furniture was decorated with red, white and blue balloons.

We started the meal by gathering round the table and we stayed standing for the National Anthem, we learned that this music is special and is unique to our country.

The children shared plates of food that our school families kindly sent in from home. Like a family meal, the children (supported by staff) enjoyed passing plates to those near them, and we all witnessed a lot of sharing and caring for others!

There was music while we ate and the fun continued afterwards with a whole school playtime on the school field.

In the afternoon we all gathered together in the corridor and watched a video about the Queen and learned more about the Platinum Jubilee celebrating the Queen's 70-year reign and that this is a momentous occasion.

It really was a wonderful Monksmoor Park event that we hope the children will remember fondly for a very long time.

Reception News

In light of the Jubilee celebrations taking place at the end of the week, the Hedgehogs have been looking at kings and queens in history and how they lived. They have looked at castle structures from the past and present and talked about the differences and what the different castle features are called. The Hedgehogs made their own golden crowns for the Jubilee Street Party and they also worked together outdoors to create their own ‘Hedgehog Castle’. View more

Year 1 News

The Rabbits have been learning to share equally and to say how many are in each group. One of their activities was to decorate a pizza, making sure each pizza had an equal amount of toppings.

Year 2 News

We have had some very scientific Squirrels this week! We have set up our own investigation to find out what materials will degrade over time if left in the ocean. We had a brilliant class discussion about pollutants in our oceans and how things degrade over time before sorting a range of materials into alive, dead or never alive.  View More

Nursery

We welcomed more furry friends into Nursery this week when we were visited by Mary Poppins, Katniss, Lois Lane and Mavis Staples, the guinea pigs. We learned about what they eat, what they like to do for fun and how to keep them safe and happy. Thank you to Mrs Margieson for bringing them in to meet us. View more

Jubilee celebrations have begun in earnest in Nursery this week as the children learned the name of the Queen and about where she lives. We all stood for the National Anthem and made red, white and blue crowns too.
