Week ending 23rd June 2023

The Monksmoor Park PTA Summer Fair

Thank you very much for your generous sweet and bottle donations on the non-uniform days!

We need people like you!

We have a small but perfectly formed PTA. To ensure the Summer Fair is a success we need lots of different people to fill a variety of roles.
If you would like to help behind the scenes in the days leading up to the event or at the event on Saturday 1st July please contact Claire by email: monksmoorparkpta@gmail.com

Your help would be most welcome!

Class Hamper Raffle

We are also honouring our creative tradition of having a hamper raffle at the Fair. Over the next few weeks each class will create a picnic hamper that we hope you will want to win! Please see the poster below for more information on how you can help your child's class. We have already seen some exciting outdoor games and toys and pretty picnic ware for the class hampers.

All donations can be delivered direct to your child's class until Monday 26th June.

Thank you for your support!

Nursery News

A week of investigation in Nursery, as we have chosen our favourite biscuit toppings, explored what happens when we mix colours and learned about the air ambulance too, even building an air ambulance outside from big wooden building blocks. The children were also fascinated to observe a snail moving around the Early Years garden.

This week we have been creating fish tiles as part of learning the story of 'The Rainbow Fish' and exploring sounds in music, ranging from the William Tell Overture to Big Bear Funk! We definitely have some budding musicians in Hedgehogs who are keen to play instruments in Key Stage 1! We have also been designing buildings and recalling the features of a place of worship.

Year 1 News

Year 1 have been carrying out art work based on the tortoise. We looked in detail at the shell and used sketching techniques to recreate the patterns. Using a collage technique the children created their own colourful tortoises. We also had fun playing in our stunning zoo role play area created by the Year 1 team and painted by the very talented Miss Taylor!  See more here

In their design and technology lessons, Year 2 learners have been exploring structures and thinking how to make them stronger, stiffer and more stable. Intrigued by watching a video about stronger structures, they worked in small groups to make a stool that could support their weight out of drinks cans.

Year 4 News

In topic we used Chromebooks to look at the religious beliefs of the Anglo-Saxons and then build interactive quizzes for our friends to try and see how the Picts and Pope of Rome persuaded them to look to Christianity. Also in topic we have seen how the Vikings began to invade Briton and the reasons behind it. Forest School News

Due to the sudden showers of rain this week, shelter building has been a very popular activity! It is always great to see the children working together, sharing ideas, testing ideas, resolving conflicts and then finally enjoying playing in their finished creation.

Year 3 had the opportunity to create some Boggarts using clay and natural resources foraged from Forest School. They'll be on their way home once the clay has dried so look out for them! More news and photos
