This week we have been enjoying the story of 'Oliver's Vegetables', learning about where different vegetables grow and finding out about the names of the foods we eat. The children have begun to learn to follow instructions in preparation for making our own homemade chips next week.

Year 2 News

Year 2 enjoyed their time with our Jewish visitor last week. We revisited our learning from the autumn term all about Hanukkah and deepened our knowledge through the visit. We enjoyed seeing more about how Hanukkah is celebrated, including lighting the hanukkiah, seeing Hanukkah cards and games and tasting some yummy doughnuts!

Year 4 News

It was been a busy week in Woodpeckers Class. We had lots of fun in PSHE celebrating how we each are “1 in a million (or 8.1 billion)” and measuring each other to discover we are truly unique and that we should celebrate our individuality and personal strengths.

Year 5 News

In English they were reminded of their drama work based on Neil Armstrong and have scrutinised an example text so that they identify the writer toolkit that they will go on to use in their own writing next week.

In PE we continue to explore gymnastic movements and in music we worked collaboratively to combine glockenspiels and boom-whackers to create our own musical pieces.  More news and photos

Forest School News

The Year 4 children were so busy in their own little groups having lots of fun while developing their skills of imagination, resilience, compromise and working together. A dragon's egg (large pine cone) was discovered which led to a structure being built, and painted, to protect it and music being played to encourage it to hatch. The children were interested in the various sounds they could make from different size tyres as well as buckets filled with water. I loved the trees they created! More photos

We had a donation of some new soft and cosy fleece shirts this week. Thank you very much to Rosie and Mrs Wood for thinking of us.
We are currently in need of a few items in larger children's sizes (10 years+).  We need joggers, leggings, socks and warm long sleeve tops in good condition. If you have any of the above items that are no longer useful to you at home, please consider donating to us, as we always need spares for children attending Forest School.

Our Weekly SHINE Awards

Well done to all our award winners for being a shining example.

Appeal for School Choir Members

The choir club is open to children in Reception – Year 5. It takes place on Thursdays 3:30pm-4:15pm. Choir club is a free extra-curricular opportunity provided by our staff.

We would especially welcome more children from Key Stage 2 joining as we try to build a KS2 group ready to perform alongside other school choirs at Derngate Theatre in May.

Our Key Stage 2 members have a wonderful opportunity to experience singing on the Derngate Theatre stage to an audience of parents and family members at NMPAT's Big Sing concert in May. There is a fantastic array of songs from different genres for our children to perform alongside other school choir groups with a live orchestra.

There is no limit on the number of places available however bookings must be made on ParentMail so we have the necessary parental consent in place. Please book before midnight on Wednesday 31st January.

Scholastic Book Fair

We are pleased to host a Scholastic Book Fair in school from 7th-13th February.

There will be opportunities for you and your child to shop from a lovely range of books for all ages, and stationery items too, whilst raising much needed funds for books for our school library.

More details will be released shortly.

Kingswood Catering

If your child has a dietary requirement please read the following statement from Kingswood Catering Ltd.

Your safety is our greatest concern and because allergies can be life-threatening we would ask you to think carefully about the risks before you order.

We are proud of the service we provide to people with allergies and intolerances and we work very hard with our suppliers and our team on processes and checks around allergens. However, you should be aware that all of our kitchens handle ingredients containing the top 14 allergens other than NUTS, SESAME MOLLUSCS and CRUSTACEANS. This means that there is a chance of contamination and all our meals are therefore classified as “may contain”.

If you have any questions or need to update your child's dietary requirements please call us on 01536 201203 or send us an email enquiries@kingswoodcatering.co.uk

Lost Property

If your child has mislaid something at school and it was not labelled with their name, please have a look in the lost property boxes in the entrance porch at the front of the school.

Items will be kept until the end of the month and any unclaimed items will be donated to charity wherever possible.

Open House Cafe - Church Hall

Holy Cross Church has been successful in obtaining a grant from West Northamptonshire County Council to run a Welcoming Warm Space this winter. Our Open House Cafe will be open on Fridays 10.00 am - 2.00 pm until the end of March. We will be serving free soup and rolls to anyone who comes along. Do tell anyone who you think would benefit from this outreach to pop along and join us. Come along for a cuppa and a chat, bring your knitting, crocheting, and crafting. Dominoes, jigsaws, magazines, and daily newspapers are all available. Everyone welcome!
