This week we have explored the story of 'The 3 Little Pigs' and begun to create our role-play area using the children's ideas, including a large wolf disappearing into the chimney!

We have discussed Lent and sequenced instructions to make pancakes, it involved a lot of careful mixing!  We have also recalled other celebrations and festivals.

Year 1 News

In computing we are looking at tools available for digital painting.  We used line tools to create different lines and selected the colours we needed to create a portrait of our faces.

We have been learning about the Great Fire of London.  The children enjoyed our role-play activity where we travelled back in time to 1666 to find out all about how the fire started in Pudding Lane! See more

The Woodpeckers have really got into the “swing” of things at the start of term!  Our new unit for PE is hockey and Year 4 loved using the new hockey sticks to practise their push passes to each other out on the MUGA.  We learnt that you can only use the flat face of the hockey stick as well as the rule that the stick must not be above waist height during our practise sessions. Forest School News

We celebrated Shrove Tuesday in Forest School by heating up some pancakes to enjoy with sugar and/or jam. We decided that all food tastes better when you're eating it outside with friends - yum!!
Year 3 have also had the opportunity to make bird feeders by reusing plastic milk bottles.

Stars of the Week

Well done to all our stars for being a shining example
in faith, love, self-control and patience.

World Book Day Events

This year World Book Day is on Thursday 2nd March which is a worldwide event to celebrate reading, authors and illustrators. Research shows that reading for pleasure is the single biggest indicator of a child’s future success, and therefore this year we would like to celebrate reading through a whole week of events! Please find details of our World Book Week below.

Monday 27th Feb: Paired Reading

Children will take part in paired reading with a buddy from another year group. Older and younger pupils will mix to enjoy stories together.

Tuesday 28th Feb: Book Swap

We’re inviting everyone to bring in a book they are willing to swap for another one! Please send books in for morning registration where they will be collected in by staff. Later in the day books will be laid out for children to select a new one to take home!

We also invite adults to take part in this event. Please drop any books for swapping in to the box on the playground in the morning before 9am. Books will then be placed out for swapping from approx. 3.15pm so you can browse for a new book before collecting the children!

Please ensure all donated books for swapping are appropriate and in good condition for others to use and enjoy.

Wednesday 1st March: Design a new cover (optional)

Time to get creative! Children are invited to design a new book cover for their favourite book to display in the library. This could be using pens/pencils, on the computer or another way! It is hoped we can display entries in the library after the event. A winner will be selected from each class.

Thursday 2nd March (World Book Day): PJs and sharing stories

The big day itself! This year we once again invite everyone to wear pyjamas to school for the day in order to celebrate the importance of bedtime stories. For those attending forest school sessions, children can wear/bring pyjamas for the other half of the day.

We would also like to invite families in to share stories with their child/children. Classroom doors will open early at 3.15pm if a family member would like to join each child in their classroom to enjoy some stories together. Siblings can be collected early to join together in one classroom.

Due to timetable differences for nursery, family members are invited to join them in the morning for the first 15 minutes of the day.

Children will also come home with their £1 voucher to purchase a new book. For further information on this year's books and where to purchase, please visit: https://www.worldbookday.com/books/

Friday 3rd March: National Theatre Showings

During the day children will have the opportunity to watch a retelling of a story online from the National Theatre Collection for Primary schools. The performances are designed to bring stories off the page and excite the children about popular tales.

We’re looking forward to celebrating stories together and can’t wait to share it with you all. Look out for photos in the newsletter and on our social media throughout the week to see the fun!
