It was a week of wonderful exploration in Nursery, as the children have begun to settle into their new surroundings and routines. We introduced the Fox Cubs to the balance bikes and to the outside area, including the field. Thank you to you as parents for the support you have given us in helping the children to come in and settle so independently; it is always much appreciated. Photo gallery

We are all so proud of the fantastic start the Reception children have made and welcome them to Monksmoor Park! They have made lots of discoveries, new friends and enjoyed learning together in a new setting. They really have had a super first week and we look forward to many more! Well done Hedgehogs!

The children in Rabbits Class have settled in beautifully and have enjoyed the introductions to our new topic ‘Moon Zoom’. We have been designing our own planets using both a graphics program on the iPads and using paints. We have programmed Beebots and tried to predict how many steps it would need to get to a planet. We have also enjoyed our space themed role play area where we can dress up as astronauts and go on adventures.

We have had such a busy first week in Squirrels! There has been lots of interest in our new topic "Movers and Shakers" where we have been learning lots about significant people in history and their impact on the world. The children have been really reflective about how their lives might look different if it wasn't for people such as Rosa Parks and Joseph Lister. Ask us to tell you more about it at home! In Year 3 we have started the year learning about the purpose, structure and design features of greenhouses. We are looking forward to further learning on techniques to strengthen structures, using tools safely and finally designing and constructing a mini greenhouse. We are building strong foundations for the coming year!

Our Geography unit (Misty Mountain, Winding River) started off memorably with our own “playground river”: the children spotted lakes and whirlpools as the water chose its own path, helped by gravity. We noticed the rocks and pebbles were left at the top whilst the soil was carried right down to the river mouth. Next week we are going to follow the course of the River Nene from its source near Badby all the way to the North Sea using Google Maps. More news and photos

This week our first Year 5 class, the Dragonflies have settled back into their learning with gusto. In English, we have read the poem ‘The Highwayman’ by Alfred Noyes and begun to write a new narrative poem following the same style.

It has been lovely to welcome the children back to Forest School and we have certainly been enjoying, what could be, the last few warm, sunny days. Year 5 have worked really well together on some collaborative den building. We have foraged for blackberries which were put to good use for den decorating, pictures or face painting!!

In case you missed it, we announced in the last newsletter of the summer that the Monksmoor Park PTA were rewarded for their hard work as they became a registered charity. The team worked together to put forward an application, which was accepted first time.
Their new charitable status will help the PTA's excellent fundraising and also provide opportunities to apply for grants. Congratulations and our thanks go to Claire, Laura, Gemma, Clemmie and Jemma who have already raised thousands of pounds to help enhance the learning opportunities of our children and to enhance the school environment.
If you would like to join the PTA on a casual or regular basis, have a skill, background or contacts that might assist fundraising for our school please contact Claire by email: monksmoorparkpta@gmail.com

Reminder: Dogs on the school site
We are an animal loving school but there are adults and children who are very nervous around dogs and the animals on the playground has negatively impacted them in the morning and afternoon. As such, we took the decision not to allow any dogs on the school site.
If you bring your dog on the school run, please ensure they are left with a responsible adult and not tied to the school fence.
Thank you for your understanding and support.

Name labels
Even though it is the start of the academic year we are finding quite a few unnamed uniform items and equipment. Whilst your child is growing and learning to be independent including to look after belongings, please could you ensure their items are labelled with their full name. This includes their coat, shoes, water bottle, lunch box/bag, school bag, PE kit, sun hat, wellington boots and Forest School kit.
