Nursery News

The children in Nursery have enjoyed the mild weather and have spent lots of time outside this week. We have noted the changes that the beginning of Autumn has brought us and have enjoyed investigating the textures of things we have found outside, notably some Rainbow Chard. The children have also continued to create their own Boris robots. Our photo gallery

Hedgehogs have been investigating pumpkins grown in our school vegetable patch this week. We described the insides using lots of vocabulary and are trying to grow some seeds although it might be a little late! We have also continued our retelling and begun to record character speak in our Little Red Hen story. In RE we have enjoyed the story of Jesus and the blessing and created masks to share with each other in circle time. Photo gallery

In Forest School Year 1 are developing some good tool skills by drilling their cookies to make necklaces, using palm drills. They also had fun jumping in the muddy puddle, bird spotting and working together to build a base!

As part of our 'Belonging' unit in RE this term, we are thinking about the groups and communities that we belong to. On Thursday 19th October, the children are invited to bring to school the uniform of a club that they attend (e.g. Rainbows, Beavers, sports clubs etc.) to change into for the afternoon. Alternatively, they could bring in an item from a group that they belong to. Examples could include swimming goggles, ballet shoes or a family photo.

Year 2 News

Year 2 have been learning about colour mixing in Art this term. This week we learned that a hue is a variation of a colour. We looked closely at still life of various shades of a primary colour and then worked carefully to mix our own hues to match the objects observed.

We have continued our Ammonite learning this week, bringing our sketching to life in printing and also through our computing learning.  We discussed the advantages and disadvantages of a digital or non-digital approach.  We had a mix of views across the class in terms of the preferred approach however we all agreed the digital was beneficial due to the undo button and not having to sharpen our pencils!  Click here to see our artwork

Woodpecker Class learnt a lot about the work of Anglian Water last Friday when they joined Richard and Caroline from the company for their live lesson. The children were encouraged to be “water-wise”: turning the tap off while brushing their teeth and keeping showers to 5 minutes long. The children chose some great materials to help clean and filter the water during the live experiment. In Science, the children have been working with Mrs Brock to begin their exploration of simple series circuits. They discovered that when more bulbs are added, the light from the bulbs appears dimmer. Year 4 photo gallery

Junior Ethos Team

This week our newly established team hosted a visit from the 'Worship Warriors', the Junior Ethos Team from St Mary's CE VA Primary School in Kettering. The Worship Warriors led us all in Collective Worship. They then stayed to talk to our Junior Ethos Team and share ideas and have a short tour of the school.

Stars of the Week

Well done to all our stars for being a shining example
in faith, love, self-control and patience.

Reminder

Tempest school photographers are visiting us on Monday 9th October for individual portraits and sibling group portraits for children attending school and nursery.

Full school uniform should be worn by all children in Reception to Year 5.  Don't forget to wear a blue school jumper or cardigan.

If your child usually has PE on Monday, they should come to school dressed in school uniform and bring PE kit in a bag to change into later.

For more information about your child's portrait and Tempest photography, please see their website.

Coats 4 Kids

Last autumn, a member of our congregation, Mr. John Robinson organised a collection at the church and via social media, to raise money to buy coats and jackets, for children in Daventry. This year the PCC have decided to support John in this venture, and to make ‘Coats 4 Kids’ a church venture.

The initiative’s aim is to provide new coats and jackets to children at our town schools who would otherwise not have the necessary clothing to keep them warm and dry this coming winter. We are currently running a campaign to collect donations from members of our church community towards the supply coats and jackets for this autumn. However, we would like you to invite your staff and parents, and organisations you are connected with, to raise money for this worthy cause as well.

Please encourage people to visit our website at www.holycrosschurchdaventry.org.uk to make a donation via the QR code on our dedicated fundraising page for Coats 4 Kids.

If you feel that this is something that could help support your family's needs this year, please contact the school office in confidence.

Blue Peter Book Badge

Blue Peter has unveiled a new Book badge, designed by one of the UK's best-known illustrators, Sir Quentin Blake. The Blue Peter Book badge will be awarded to children aged 5-15 (what a shame us grown ups can’t earn one too!) who send in their thoughts on a book, draw a character or scene and share which other books and writers they love.

Find out more here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbbc/findoutmore/blue-peter-apply-for-a-book-badge?collection=blue-peter-badges

It would be great to see as many of these as possible popping up at Monksmoor Park!

Whole School Art Project

We are happy to completing another whole school Christmas art project for display at the Holy Cross Church in Daventry.

Mrs Davis led us in creating our Monksmoor Angel Joy last year for the Holy Cross Christmas tree festival and we won first prize.  This year there is no festival but we are honoured to have been asked to produce a piece of art for the Church to display throughout December.

Mrs Davis is leading our project and she and our classes would like you and your children to help in a variety of ways please:

  • Can you collect pine cones and acorns on your autumnal walks?
  • Can you supply us with any white decorations, wool and ribbons?
  • We also need white stuffing to make a snowman's body.  We need old (but clean) cushion or pillow insides/filling.

If you can help with any of the above please send it to your child's classroom in a bag labelled for Mrs Davis.  Thank you in advance for your support!
