Remembrance Day

Each class has been learning about the tradition of Remembrance Day.  The children have learned the day has been held since the First World War and that it’s celebrated in many countries across the world.  People from different backgrounds, cultures, and religions come together to honour Remembrance Day.

We remember the bravery and courage of those who fought in the World Wars on Remembrance Day.  But, we also commemorate all those who have served in the armed forces since, and those who are serving today.

Children in Need

Children in Need Day is on Friday 17th November

On Friday, the whole school will be helping raise money for Children in Need by participating in a Wear your favourite hat to school day.

Non-uniform is welcome and whilst there is no particular dress code theme for this charity event, if the children wish, they can be ‘spotacular’ by wearing clothing with spots, dots, bright yellow or Children In Need/Pudsey branding.

Children in Need is such a worthwhile cause as they fund local charities and projects who help remove barriers that are facing children and young people, so that they can thrive. Last year, Children in Need supported over 460,000 children and young people by a whole range of disadvantages such as poverty, disability, illness, distress or trauma.

To help support support Children in Need, we ask the children who wear a hat or non-uniform to make a minimum charitable donation of £1. Donations can be made on ParentMail or by scanning the QR code on the posters displayed in our classroom windows.

Make your own hat and wear it on the day to win a prize

For those that would like to conjure up something special and create their own hat extravaganza there’s the chance to win a £10 book voucher kindly donated by the Suddenly… on Sheaf Street bookstore!

There is a prize for the most creative hat maker in EYFS, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.

We would like to thank everyone in advance for their support with this worthwhile charity and thanks to Mr Margieson organising this event.

Odd Socks Day

Odd Socks Day is taking place on Monday 13th November to mark the start of Anti-Bullying Week.  (Child name) is invited to join the staff of Monksmoor Park by wearing their odd socks to school to help raise awareness of bullying and to celebrate what makes us all unique.

We will launch Anti-Bullying Week with a whole school collective worship on Monday (in our odd socks) and all classes will have a lesson on the focus during the week.

We also welcome you to read this Parent Pack from the Anti-Bullying Alliance and Kidscape to support the message from home too.

Nursery News

In Nursery, we have continued to learn about owls and have looked at the life cycle of an owl from an egg, through a fledgling to an adult owl. We have mixed a collection of everyday items, such as baked beans, flour, pasta and shampoo altogether to see what happens and we have practised working on core strength by taking part in physical literacy stretch and move sessions and also by cycling on the balance bikes outside.   Photo gallery

Reception News

Last week the Hedgehogs class was investigating and asking questions in science, leading us to make lots of predictions and wondering what would happen with autumn treasure - would tiny seeds or pumpkin pieces float or sink in buckets of water?  We had loads of fun exploring this and got a bit wet too! We have also compared lots of leaves and classified them as well as creating a stunning autumn wreath for friendship. Year 1 News

In Year one we have had great fun continuing our learning on ‘Moon Zoom’.  In design and technology we have been designing our own moon buggies following a criteria. We have also been using Google Earth to explore our planet.  We had a go at locating the sea, forest, desert and polar regions. In science, we have been learning about elasticity. We tested a variety of household materials and we measured and compared their elasticity.  More news and photos

Year 2 News

In PSHE this term our theme is "Don't forget to let love in!" and we are focusing on building our own self-esteem and showing ourselves love as well as love for others.

We have been celebrating the things that make each and every one of us unique by creating our own "proud clouds" of things that make us special. Look out for them on display soon!  Year 2 photos

Year 3 News

We started a new focus in art last week - People and Places.  We will study the figure drawings and urban landscapes of the artist LS Lowry and create artwork in his style to show scenes from our school.  In our first lesson we were drawing a human figure in a variety of poses using our class artist manikin.

It has been lovely to meet Year 4 parents at Parents’ Evening this week. We have been thinking about how we can show how we SHINE at Monksmoor. We used playdough in our morning work on Thursday to represent our school SHINE in different ways. Our playing continues to improve in our First Access Strings project too.

Harvest Festival Collection

Thank you Monksmoor Park! Together we collected enough food and toiletry donations to fill a car!

The Year 5 class organised our Harvest Festival collective worship this year.  This week some of our Year 5 pupils saw through their project to the end when they met Angela of Daventry Food Bank and helped to load her car full of our donations for transporting to the Food Bank.

Sports News

Last week a group of Year 3 and 4 children took part in a Tag Rugby Festival.  The children did an amazing job learning the sport and made great progress throughout the day.  They even won a few of the games.

Some of the children that took part in the PTA sponsored Wheel Challenge with Headteacher Mrs Towers and RE Lead Mrs Williams

Wow, wow, and wow!

We would like to say a massive well done to those children who participated in the sponsored event. Collectively you raised £660 which is truly outstanding! This is a phenomenal amount of money to raise and every penny will be used toward the Bible wall art.

We loved looking through the sponsorship forms and learning what you did to raise the money.  Examples included scooting round Draycote Water, cycling round the Country Park, cycling to school, swimming daily whilst on holiday, and a special well done to those individuals who used this opportunity to learn to ride their bike.  Give yourselves a massive pat on the back!

With thanks
The Monksmoor Park PTA
