The children have made the most of the mild weather this week, creating structures outside every day using wooden construction blocks.  We have enjoyed making them into a police station, an aeroplane, a bus, a house, a Paw Patrol lookout station, a castle and even a grotto.  The children have also completed some Christmas craft surprises ready to take home to parents and carers.

Year 1 Forest School

The Year 1 Forest School schedule for next term has been emailed home and a copy is also available on our school website.

Year 2 News

Squirrels have had another busy week preparing for the crib service.  The evening was so special and really captured the spirit of Christmas.  The children did so well retelling the story in front of an audience and looked brilliant in their costumes.  Thank you to all our families for your support with this event.
We finish the term with an exciting PE lesson making use of the equipment to show off the shapes and balances we can make.

Although school breaks up on Tuesday, as this is the last newsletter of the year we wish everyone a wonderful Christmas break - we look forward to seeing you in the new year! Year 2 photo gallery

Year 4 News

Year 4 did a great job running the Shuffleboard stall at the Christmas Fayre at the weekend. They were kept very busy by all the customers: thank you to everyone who played and those that gave up their time to help. This week we have all made a nightlight with an electrical circuit. It was a fiddly job but we got there in the end! Have a great weekend!

Year 5 News

On Tuesday Year 5 showcased their musical skills and shared their learning with the rest of the school by performing a set of different Jazz pieces.  These pieces were introduced to the audience with the background of their origins before set pieces were played with sections of improvisation.  In art we have applied our understanding on tints and tones to a selection of different artists. News from our Football Teams

Our very first football tournament was a great success, with our Monksmoor Park teams winning 5 out of 6 matches.  All three teams played brilliantly, showing real skill and teamwork.  We saw a plethora of stunning goals from each team and some outstanding saves.  Both teams enjoyed the afternoon and we have been invited to Ketton CE Primary School next term to play again.

All players also looked the part in our team kit, which was first provided to the school via the Premier League Primary Stars football kit initiative but topped up with support from our PTA.

Our teams are all keen to play again and to build upon their success.

We are pleased to be able to add GLK football coaching to our after-school clubs in 2024.  Please read the notices below for more information.

Thank you to the PTA

Thank you to everyone who supported the Christmas Fayre. Especial thanks to the PTA members who have been organising the event for a long time before the day. We raised a massive £1000 and there's still a bit more money to count!

Thank you also to parents Neil and Clemmie Clayton of Epic Audio for generously gifting the school this wonderful speaker and microphone set after we borrowed it for the Christmas Fayre.

"Thank you for opening the Fayre to the local community, it was such a fun event!  All of the events are, we hope to keep coming back to them."

"Thanks to everyone involved in the school Christmas Fayre."
- Just one of the thank you messages received from many
Monksmoor Park School and Nursery parents this week.

The day was a huge success and we were even treated to a guest appearance by Santa Claus. Both Santa and his magical grotto have disappeared to get ready for Christmas Eve. We really hope they both return next year!

Our Weekly SHINE Awards

Well done to all our stars for being a shining example.

Notices

Football Clubs

GLK Football Academies are now able to offer after-school football coaching.  The following clubs are available and will run from Monday 8th January.

  • GLK Years 2-5 Girls' Football Club on Mondays 3:30-4:30pm
    £4.75 per session
  • GLK Years 3-5 Boys' Football Club on Thursdays 3:30-4:30pm
    £4.75 per session

Please note, there will not be any lunchtime football in the first part of the spring term.  This is due to weather and the knock-on effect changing twice during lunchtime has on learning time.  By offering after-school clubs the children will also benefit from more time spent playing football.

Training will be outdoors except in extreme weather.  Please ensure your child brings suitable outdoor clothing including waterproofs if necessary as well as shin pads, and trainers/football boots to school.

If your child would like to attend a GLK football club please book a space using ParentMail.  Payments must be made in advance but can be made on a weekly basis by midnight on Sundays.

These sessions are open to everyone of the appropriate age, not just those who played in recent matches.

Choir Club

We're delighted to continue to offer the after-school choir club to children in Reception – Year 5.  The club runs on Thursdays 3:30pm-4:15pm from Thursday 11th January until Thursday 21st March.

This is a free club provided by our staff.  Bookings must be made on ParentMail, so we have the necessary parental consent in place.  Bookings close at midnight on Wednesday 10th January.

KS2 Business Club

We are pleased to continue to offer a KS2 Business Club in the spring term.  This is a free club offered by Mrs Munro.

The club will run on Tuesdays from 3:30–4:15pm and will take place between Tuesday 9th January and until Tuesday 26th March.

There are a limited number of spaces available, please apply for a space by booking on ParentMail.  Mrs Munro will contact you by 5th January to confirm if a place can be offered to your child.

Children should be collected at 4:15pm from the main entrance at the front of the school. Children booked in for wrap around care in The Nest will be taken there by a member of staff after the club.

Bookings close at midnight on 3rd January.

Year 5 Go-Kart Club

We are incredibly excited to announce a new extra-curricular activity for the children: ‘Go Kart Club’.

During the course of the club, children will learn how to re-build a real go-kart, change tyres, and learn about steering and how an engine works.  The club will be ‘hand-on’ each week and once we have managed to re-build the kart, we will all go to a local race track in Leicester and give each child an opportunity to drive their kart round the track.

This club is only open to children in Year 5 and only 6 children can take part at any one time.  If more than 6 children are interested, we will run the club again, giving everyone an opportunity to attend.

Parents will be required to attend the final track day and there will be a small charge for this.  No special equipment or clothing is required as it will all be provided.  As this is the first time we have run this club, it is difficult to anticipate when the first track day will be, but it will certainly be before the Easter holidays.  (Further details will be given to club members nearer the time).

We hope you agree this is a unique opportunity for our children (I don’t know of any other primary school offering this!) and I can’t wait to start working with them.  The club will run after school 3:30-4:30pm on Fridays and will start on Friday 12th January 2024.

Most families have already applied for a space on the club, but there's still time if you would like your child to take part.  Please request a space on ParentMail by midnight on Monday 18th December and to give consent for your child to attend the after-school club.
If more than 6 children are interested, we will pull names out of a hat and start a waiting list.
