The children in Nursery have continued using Goldilocks as the book focus of our learning this week and have been talking about size and shape, using the words large, medium and small to describe the bowls and chairs. We also learned about how to make porridge and made our own with some fresh milk.

Year 1 enjoyed a very interesting afternoon with our Jewish visitor. We learned all about why and how Shabbat is celebrated in a Jewish home. We got to smell sweet spices, taste Challah bread and some of us modelled some Jewish prayer clothes. We are looking forward to making our own Challah bread and having a Shabbat experience next week! This week we have been exploring muscles and how they can only pull and cannot push. We were exploring how muscles have to work in pairs to move a joint. One muscle will contract and pull a joint one way and another muscle will contract and pull it the other. We enjoyed completing our Making Muscles activity, testing our strength!

This week Year 4 have been learning more about the features of journalistic writing. They took it in turns to be interviewers and eye-witnesses as part of our English unit on 'The Creature'. In computing the children were challenged to come up with a “code snippet” to program Logo to draw a digit using the commands we had learnt so far. More news and photos

In science this week Dragonflies have been looking at burning and developing their understanding that fire needs three things: fuel, heat and oxygen. By carefully using tea lights we carried out an experiment to investigate whether placing different sized glasses over a lit candle would affect how long it would remain to burn. In art explored the sculptural potential of natural materials before working collaboratively to create land art installations. View more photos

We were excited last week for the first session of our new extra-curricular activity, the Year 5 Go Kart Club!
During the course of the club, the children will learn how to re-build a real go-kart, change tyres, learn about steering and how an engine works. The club will be ‘hands-on’ each week and once we have managed to re-build the kart, we will all go to a local racetrack in Leicester and give each child an opportunity to drive their kart round the track.

On Monday a group of year 1/2 and year 3/4 children took part in a gymnastics competition. They had to learn a body management routine, a floor routine and they had to perform a vault to a set of judges. The children were amazing and performed their routines with confidence. We were thrilled that some of our children were awarded with the highest points for the day. A big congratulations go to all the children! Photo gallery

Creating Positive Relationships
Register here: https://bit.ly/PMHD2024
To make and maintain strong or positive relationships, the first step is to ditch the self-critic and build on being positive and self-accepting. Low self-esteem often leads to making poor choices in relationships since it’s hard to let anyone else like you if you don’t like yourself.
Join Dr Nihara Krause, Consultant Clinical Psychologist and friends, as they look at practical tools to help you in #CreatingPositiveRelationships.

Kingswood Catering
If your child has a dietary requirement please read the following statement from Kingswood Catering Ltd.
Your safety is our greatest concern and because allergies can be life-threatening we would ask you to think carefully about the risks before you order.
We are proud of the service we provide to people with allergies and intolerances and we work very hard with our suppliers and our team on processes and checks around allergens. However, you should be aware that all of our kitchens handle ingredients containing the top 14 allergens other than NUTS, SESAME MOLLUSCS and CRUSTACEANS. This means that there is a chance of contamination and all our meals are therefore classified as “may contain”.
If you have any questions or need to update your child's dietary requirements please call us on 01536 201203 or send us an email enquiries@kingswoodcatering.co.uk
