Our 'Animal Safari' topic has continued apace in the last fortnight and we were fortunate to have a visit from Benji the Cockapoo, who was kindly brought along by Mrs Kyte for the children to learn all about what it's like to have a pet at home. We have continued our learning this week focusing on the book Monkey Puzzle, as well as continuing to learn new phonics sounds. More photos

We have today released our beautiful butterflies, the children have been so enthused about their life cycle and have created a butterfly memory box and shared their wishes for them in the future. We have been creating our garden and tending to our sunflowers and vegetables as well as writing instructions, please tell us of anything you are growing at home. Year 1 News

Year 1 have been enjoying our new topic ‘Paws, Claws and Whiskers’. In art we have been looking at animal-themed pictures. We discussed how they have been created, identified similarities and differences and which ones we prefer. We have had a go at creating some of our own pictures in a similar style.

Our new vet’s role play area has been enjoyed by all and has been used to help some poorly teddies, and we have created some animal scenes in our small world area. Photo gallery

Year 2 News

Year 2 continue to enjoy their Coastline topic. This week we have been learning about erosion and how it can change the shape of our coastline over time. We looked at sea defences, then worked as a team to try and create the best defence to protect the coastline.

In computing we have been using Chrome Music Lab to create digital music. We've been using different tools to experiment with the pitch, rhythm and tempo of our music. We definitely have some future DJs amongst us! Year 2 photos

Year 3 News

In design and technology we are learning about the advantages of eating seasonally. We also recapped knife skills and chopped up some vegetables and made a dip to eat with them. We examined the packaging of the vegetables that we used and discovered that they were all imported from other countries as they are not yet in season in the UK. Year 3 enjoyed trying the vegetables and the dip and made posters to persuade people to eat seasonally. Year 3 photo gallery

Year 5 News

Feels like time is flying past at the moment in Dragonflies: we are so busy with our learning! In our maths we have been focusing on two related areas: shape and direction. We have identified both 2-D and 3-D shapes using their mathematical properties, we have honed our skills in using protractors through measuring and drawing angles accurately and using knowledge of angles on a straight line and around a point.

On 10th May, World Lupus Day the children were privileged to have a talk from courageous Ella who shared her perspective of Lupus. Thank you, Ella, for all our purple stickers, ribbons and enamel badges. We wear them with pride and will share our new knowledge with others. More Year 5 news and photos

Our class group photos are being taken on the morning of Monday 20th May.  This is a class group photo for all year groups from Nursery through to Year 5.

Nursery children that do not usually attend on Mondays are welcome to attend 8:30am to 9:30am so they can be in the class photo.  Children should arrive at Nursery at 8:30am to be registered and must be collected at 9:30am from the school office.

Children in Reception - Year 5 need to be in full school uniform including school shoes and a school jumper or cardigan.  If you have PE on Mondays please bring your PE kit to change into.

Fingers crossed for dry weather as we hope to have our photos taken outside this year!

Unfortunately there will be no Summer Fair this year due to the number of parent volunteers available. It is hoped there will be other PTA fundraising events in the summer term; please help to support these as the money goes back into increasing the learning opportunities available at Monksmoor Park and enhancing your child's school environment.

If you would like to become an active member of the PTA or to find out more please don't hesitate to email Claire, Clemmie, Gemma and Laura: monksmoorparkpta@gmail.com

What is my child learning this term?

Information about our curriculums in Reception through to Year 5 can be found on our school website.
