Nursery News

Fox Cubs have been creating their own stories using Story Door templates to guide them through each part of the narrative process. We have listened to some wonderful stories this way as the children have shared them with their friends. We have also moved onto the story 'Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Have You Seen?' which has helped us develop our colour awareness and which has led to some exciting adventures as we have made our own binoculars. Encouraging your child to recall familiar stories and rhymes out loud is one of the most crucial things you can do to support early reading development and at Monksmoor Park we do it every day. Have a look at our social media accounts to see a fabulous retelling of 'Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Have You Seen?'.

Year 1 News

In Year 1 we had great fun exploring our new orienteering course. We looked at the school map to find the locations of the different markers and then went to find out which animals were at the different locations.

Year 1 have had a focus on team work in the past couple of sessions. Starting sessions with a group hide-and-seek game, they then went on to work together brilliantly, making dens and cooking up delights in the new mud kitchen! It was lovely to see them working collaboratively and helping each other out. The Sycamores were excited to hear our baby blue tits in the nest box! We also enjoyed making mobiles, spotting wildlife and making music. Photo gallery

Year 2 News

On Wednesday 22nd May we were lucky to have a visit from the RNLI. James, one of their volunteers, spoke to us about how to keep safe near the water. We learned all about the meaning of the RNLI flags, what hazards to look for near the water and how to float in a star shape if we face difficulty. It was perfect timing for all those beach holidays during the half-term break! We made our own posters to show our learning which will be sent home soon to share.  More news and photos

Forest School News

Year 4 have been using peelers to whittle sticks into wands. There was a good level of skill in evidence as some of them were able to create quite a point to their wand before they decorated them. The next step will be some knife work.

Reception are really enjoying hunting for slugs, snails and minibeasts in their Forest School sessions. They love sharing the knowledge they are learning in the classroom about species names, facts and the three part body that insects have. Great recall Hedgehogs!

Year 5 have had the opportunity to make some 'log dogs'.  By attaching a lead using a timber hitch knot we hope that some of the younger children will enjoy taking them for a walk to explore Forest School in their sessions.  The children were also able to plant sweet peas at the base of a cane wigwam which we hope will become a beautifully scented living den (if we can keep the slugs away!). Northamptonshire Children's Trust would like to highlight the following YouTube videos to anyone with a young child or baby in their household. We hope you find them useful.

Solihull Approach understands 'sleep is important for our physical and mental wellbeing and we know that from birth, sleep is fundamental for healthy brain development. While sleep is a natural instinct, it’s also a skill we have to develop: learning how to wind down and how much sleep we need. The Solihull Approach promotes connected relationships between parents and infants to help children to learn and thrive as they grow'.
