The Monksmoor Park PTA Summer Fair

{alt_tag}

Non-Uniform Days

The Monksmoor Park PTA are hosting our Summer Fair. The fundraising event of the summer takes place on Saturday 1st July from 12:00-2:00 p.m.

To ensure the event raises as much money as possible to enhance our school environment and the learning of all our children we need your help please.

The PTA need prizes for stalls, so we are holding two non-uniform days on Friday 16th and Friday 23rd June. All children (and adults) are welcome to attend school in non-uniform for a small donation of sweets on 16th June and a bottle donation on 23rd June. Due to the warm summer weather please donate sweets and not chocolate items.

There will be collection stations available at all school entrances on the mornings of the 16th and the 23rd June.

We need people like you!

We need lots of different people to fill a variety of roles to help the event be a success.
If you would like to help behind the scenes in the days leading up to the event or on the 1st July please contact Claire by email: monksmoorparkpta@gmail.com

Your help would be most welcome!

Class Hamper Raffle

We are also honouring our creative tradition of having a hamper raffle at the Fair. Over the next few weeks each class will create a picnic hamper that we hope you will want to win! Please see the poster below for more information on how you can help your child's class. All donations can be delivered directly to your child's class until Monday 26th June.

Thank you in advance for your support!

Nursery News

The children in Nursery have been keeping cool this week with a cool water foot spa and have also enjoyed visiting Barry's new house in our role-play area. We have continued to explore colour mixing and have sorted buttons into groups according to different categories.

Reception News

This week Reception created wonderful paintings of the stars at night, creatures of the Earth and sea and a landscape scene in their learning of the story of Creation. We used a range of different painting techniques and some of us really enjoyed using straws and our mouths to paint twinkly stars!

Year 1 News

Recently the children have enjoyed a variety of Forest School activities including bubbles, pond dipping, royal crown weaving, potion making, bug hunting and whittling sticks ready to toast marshmallows!

Year 2 News

In RE Squirrels have been learning about the parable of The Lost Son. We heard the story and then discussed what Christians may learn about God from it. We went on to make hidden meaning boxes with the parts of the story on the outside and the meaning on the inside! Some of the hidden meanings we gathered were "love no matter what", "forgiveness" and "acceptance when people make the wrong  choices".  Our photo gallery.

Year 3 News

Year 3 have been developing their cricket skills, specifically their throwing, catching and batting. The children have just finished their poetry unit and have completed their independent write. They wrote a poem about what colours would be like for someone who is blind – using senses other than sight.

More Year 3 news and photos.

Forest School

We decorated our own Forest School necklaces and it was lovely to chat to our friends in the sunshine while we did. We really enjoy hunting for minibeasts and use our bug pots and magnifying glasses to observe them more closely. This year we have found a particularly handsome red beetle which we think is a cardinal or soldier beetle. We are going to look at our insect books to decide which it is!

Hay Fever

We are fortunate to have lots of outdoor space at our school and the children have enjoyed being able to play on the field this term.

Our field has two distinct sections, one which is mowed short for football and the other which is left long.  The banks around the field also have long grass.  We have spoken to the children about playing in the long grass and to be mindful of the 'prickles' it may contain.  We feel the variety of space available to all children is important and teaches them about different natural environments.  However, some children have been struggling with hay fever which has been exacerbated by the very high pollen count.  Please do talk to your children about the most appropriate place for them to choose to play during lunchtime.  Our playground and MUGA are always available for those who prefer to stay away from the field although there is plenty of space for children to enjoy grassed areas without playing in the long grass.

Sports Day is on Wednesday 5th July

Two letters have been sent home about Sports Day, one for our Nursery class and one for Reception-Year 4 children, please see the relevant letter for more information. A copy of the letters can be found on the letters page on our website.

Reception - Year 4 - if you need more information about your child's sports team please see your child's class teacher.
