The Fox Cubs have enjoyed another busy week, which has seen a Scarecrows' Wedding, Nativity practice as well as the beginning of Advent all marked. The children wrote out wedding invitations and learned about some of the traditional customs associated with marriage ceremonies. We also learned some of the key vocabulary used when talking about weddings.

This week Hedgehogs have continued to investigate light using torches, experimenting with tubes and filters, and finding ways of seeing shadows using their own designs. We have also learnt more about night and day and created silhouette images to develop this. We shared our Advent wreath in Collective Worship and have been practising for something very special........... we look forward to seeing you all next week!! Photos

Year 1 had an amazing trip to the Space Centre. Our favourite parts were going in a rocket and pushing all the buttons, seeing a real-life astronaut suit and taking the glass lift all the way up alongside a giant rocket! We also showed off our knowledge of the planets in the planetarium quiz. View our photos here

We have been busy making leaf rainbows, forest faces out of clay and natural materials as well as drilling our cookies. We have started wrapping wool around sticks to make some Christmas tree decorations.

Year 2 continued their learning about materials and their properties by considering materials used in History. We watched videos of working siege engines and the learners identified the materials that were used to make them. They also discussed the properties that made them useful for creating the siege engine. We then created our own catapults using wooden lollipop sticks and elastic bands and fired pom poms with them. Great fun!

In art we have been looking at People and Places, focusing on the works of LS Lowry (an artist, most famous for his drawings and paintings of the industrial urban landscapes of Manchester). As part of our learning we explored drawing our own hands in detail. We used some of the techniques that we had learned and practised last term – shading, hatching and cross-hatching. This week Year 4 have been learning about contour lines on OS maps and that topography is the physical shape of the landscape. We looked at Borough Hill on an OS Map and compared it to the topography of the land around Monksmoor Farm where our estate was later built on. We had a go at making our own cardboard hills to bring the contour lines to life. Photo gallery

This week Dragonflies have been extending their knowledge of the impact the different climate zones have on the types of farming that can be sustained. We focused our learning on North and South America and considered how not only the weather, but also the terrain and soil type changes the productivity of crops and rearing livestock. On Saturday 25th November, some of the School Choir supported Daventry Library by filling the halls of their Christmas Fayre with tuneful Christmas delight.
It was an honour to be asked by our friends at Daventry Library and we are very grateful to all the parents, grandparents and carers who made it possible for the children to attend and sing at the Fayre. More photos
