Year 2 make pom-pom catapults
Year 2 continued their learning about materials and their properties by considering materials used in History. We watched videos of working siege engines and the learners identified the materials that were used to make them. They also discussed the properties that made them useful for creating the siege engine. We then created our own catapults using wooden lollipop sticks and elastic bands and fired pom poms with them. Great fun!
At the end of the lesson we discussed the properties of the materials we used and why they made our catapults successful. It was great to see Year 2 connecting the science to their Design & Technology learning, as they noticed that levers were used in some of the siege engines.
