Nursery News

Image[8]

We have welcomed some scarecrows from home this week as the congregation has gathered for our Scarecrows' Wedding. The children have also been using the Word Are scheme to learn new vocabulary and this week Concept Cat taught the children the words tasty and delicious. We also practised balancing outside on the stilts.

Thank you kindly to PC Carter of Northamptonshire Police for visiting us in Nursery today to share with us what the role of a police officer is. PC Carter explained to the children about how to be safe when out and about and we were all very lucky to get to sit in the Police van, try on the hi-vis jackets and listen to the noisy siren.  See more photos here.

Reception News

In Reception this week we have been learning about Baptism and recalling Celebrations, this leads us into beginning our focus on the Christmas story. We are very excited to be practising our Nativity with Nursery.

Please ask us about hibernating animals as we have learnt lots of facts about Hedgehogs that we can share with you at home.  See more.

Year 1 News

In Year 1 we are busy writing our recounts about a very exciting event that we witnessed.  First we found alien footprints and slime leading to the site of a spaceship crash landing on the school field!  Next we found a letter directing us to an alien egg.  We are keeping it safe for when the alien returns to collect it.

This week Year 1 were comparing capacities, and they were quite surprised by some of the results!  They found out that taller isn't necessarily bigger.  The children found that different shaped containers could hold very different amounts too.  They guessed which shapes held the largest capacity, and as you can see they were very happy when they applied their learning and had guessed correctly.  Well done Rabbits! Year 2 News

Year 2 have enjoyed getting to grips with their poetry unit this week in English.  Over the coming weeks we will be writing our own poems based on “If I were in charge of the world…” so we had an exciting experience to generate ideas.  The children thought carefully about what they would keep and banish if they were a world leader.

Year 3 have grown crystals this week, to help understand how intrusive and extrusive rocks form.

The children have also started a poetry unit focusing on Autumn.  They have generated some lovely vocabulary and have been introduced to personification.

Find out more about our week.

Year 4 News

In computing we have built our own “scenes” that use IF/ELSE control statements based on input from the user to control what is displayed on the screen.

Thoughtful Esmei showed love to another by writing to King Charles III upon the news of his mother's death.  She was thanked in a card from King Charles III for sending "a wonderfully generous message".  Find out more about Year 4.

Year 3

We were very glad of a sunny morning for our session with Year 3 this week!  It was a good time to remember our 'no pick, no lick' rule as we discovered a huge variety of interesting and beautiful fungi around our site.  The recent damp weather had also brought out a large number of worms and snails to observe.

Lots more news can be found here.

Year 4

Year 4 were having fun challenging themselves to run faster and faster down the hill this week. Mrs Copland held her breath but all children were unharmed in the making of this activity! It was rewarding to observe the organisation, collaboration and encouragement between the participants.

Sports News

Some of our Key Stage 1 children took part in a Northamptonshire Sport ‘Get Active Festival’ this week.  They had a great time trying a range of new and different skills.  The children were all amazing ambassadors of Monksmoor Park, and they had a fantastic time.  They showed great determination during each activity and worked well as a part of team.

Whole School Project

As reported last week, the whole school has been working together to create an angel to display at Holy Cross Church for the Christmas Tree Festival.  Led by Mrs Davis, it has been a team effort as each class has contributed to creating our artwork.  The angel has been named Joy after our value of the term.

We hope you have a chance to see Joy at the Christmas Tree Festival and Christmas Fair next weekend.  See our extended gallery here.
