Children in Need

{item_alt_tag}

On Friday 17th November 2023, the whole school will be helping raise money for Children in Need by participating in a Wear your favourite hat to school day.

Non-uniform is welcome and whilst there is no particular dress code theme for this charity event, if the children wish, they can be ‘spotacular’ by wearing clothing with spots, dots, bright yellow or Children In Need/Pudsey branding.

Children in Need is such a worthwhile cause as they fund local charities and projects who help remove barriers that are facing children and young people, so that they can thrive. Last year, Children in Need supported over 460,000 children and young people by a whole range of disadvantages such as poverty, disability, illness, distress or trauma.

To help support support Children in Need, we ask the children who wear a hat or non-uniform to make a minimum charitable donation of £1. Donations can be made on ParentMail or by scanning the QR code on the posters displayed in our classroom windows.

Make your own hat and wear it on the day to win a prize

For those that would like to conjure up something special and create their own hat extravaganza there’s the chance to win a £10 book voucher kindly donated by the Suddenly… on Sheaf Street bookstore!

There is a prize for the most creative hat maker in EYFS, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.

We would like to thank everyone in advance for their support with this worthwhile charity.

Nursery News

Image[7]

The Fox Cubs in Nursery have continued to explore the story of We're Going on a Bear Hunt this week, creating their own story maps and extending the story further into dinosaur hunts, monster hunts, tiger hunts and shark hunts. The children have also been beginning to write the letters in their names and whilst outside have been drawing chalk numbers to jump onto. Photo gallery

The children in Nursery have been enjoying the story of 'Owl Babies' this week, focusing on the language used to describe the characteristics of the owls. We have also used comparative language in science as we have investigated the size, weight and feel of natural objects around us, including pumpkins, conkers, leaves and pine cones.

Year 1 News

Year 1 thoroughly enjoyed sharing all their items of belonging at the end of last term. It was lovely to hear them talk so enthusiastically about their clubs and families. They shared how they made them feel, such as ‘loved’, ‘proud’ and ‘happy’.

The Oaks were also busy continuing to use palm drills to drill their cookies and make necklaces, as well as making a conker mobile and willow weaving. The Sycamores have been enjoying building dens, making magic potions and playing in the mud! Our photos are available here

Year 2 News

As part of their materials learning in science, Year 2 have been investigating the best size and shape for a miniature cargo boat, created using foil. We experimented with different sizes and shapes and tested our boats with "cargo" from the maths resources! We concluded that ships that spread the weight of their cargo over a larger surface area can carry the most. Maybe you could try some other designs at home!

Year 4 News

IMG0359

In PE we have been learning about Yoga, moving with breath and moving from pose to pose in Yoga flow. We enjoyed the relaxation session at the end very much too (I think some of us were nearly dropping off!). Finally, the children were really interested to find out more about Storm Babet that caused widespread flooding over the half term break. They worked in groups to produce short news items – there was some very impressive acting on display! In the Gallery you will also find our completed artwork from our landscape art unit: Vista. Year 5 News

Year 5 have enjoyed investigating different types of numbers this week. Using our knowledge of times tables we looked at multiples, factors, common factors and then used this to say whether numbers were composite, prime, squared and finally cubed numbers.

Forest School News

Year 5 had lots of fun trying the traditional Autumn activity of apple bobbing in their session before half term which resulted in lots of laughter, encouragement, persistence and some very wet faces!! The children also had the opportunity to construct some conker people which they were very proud of. Photo gallery
