This week in Early Years, we are marking National Nursery Rhyme Week. On Monday we were joined by a group of parents to sing with us and to act out our favourite stories. Thank you to all those who joined us and we really do appreciate the effort involved in creating a fantastic array of costumes.

Reception News

In Reception we have been learning the Nativity story, making lots of links as we practice!

We have had great fun learning about shadows using torches as we tell the Rama and Sita story and use our nocturnal animal puppets.  We have also investigated night and day using time-sequencing words to help us remember more.  Photo gallery

Year 1 News

On Thursday Year 1 took a day out of the classroom to enrich their Space studies with a fantastic visit to The National Space Centre.  Their news and photos will be in the next newsletter.

Year 2 News

Year 2 had an amazing day on our trip to Northampton Town FC. We started the day with a tour of the stadium, including seeing the changing rooms, walking on to the pitch through the tunnel and pulling our best football manager poses in the dugout! We then spent some time learning about local hero Walter Tull, to link to our history learning this term. We look forward to building upon this back at school. Year 2 photo gallery

Year 3 News

Year 3 have continued to work in small groups to produce the wooden frame structure for their mini greenhouse. All of the children showed a strong understanding of the health and safety rules for working with junior hacksaws and were able to use the tools safely. During the time when they were not sawing they worked with their groups to make a cuboid frame out of construction straws and problem solved together how to make their structure stronger. Year 4 News

This week Year 4 have been learning about five different ways mountains are formed. We used playdough to recreate them: Can you spot fold mountains, volcanic mountains, dome mountains, fault-block mountains and plateau mountains? The children worked hard to create information pages about the different type of mountains. We had our final session of Yoga too.

Year 5 News

Dragonflies completed some baseline assessments of their fitness and have recorded these for future reference to see if we have improved.  In art we are using our skills of tonal shading to match colours within paintings and in science we have started to understand the position, size and surface temperature of the planets in our solar system.  Phew what a busy week! Road Safety Week Competition

IMG6723

Well done to Tom and Cerys who had their road safety poster designs made into real outdoor road signs this week.

As part of Brake's Road Safety Week, we were visited by Kier who work with West Northamptonshire Highways.  They set the children in Key Stage 2 a challenge to design a road safety poster.  The competition prize was their design to be made into a custom road sign for the school and a smaller version for them to keep.

Well done to all the children who took part, Kier found it very difficult to select the winners as your posters were so good.  Kier has gifted all the children in Key Stage 2 with a token of thanks, including reflective keyrings and pens.

Our Whole School Art Project

Mrs Davis coordinated the whole school in a wonderful Christmas art project.

Every child helped to create a Snowman Nativity Shepherd with each class contributing to the final result! The children had immense fun making their art and checking on the progress over the last month.

Our magnificent Monksmoor Park snowman is on display in the Holy Cross Church, Daventry from Saturday 25th November until our school breaks up for Christmas.

Holy Cross Church will be open 11am-2pm on Saturday 25th Nov. for the Daventry Christmas Fayre where you are very welcome. Pop along if you can!
