Nursery News

The Fox Cubs have continued to explore their new setting, particularly enjoying a race track outside on the trikes in which we practiced counting to see how long it took to get round the track - even the adults had a turn, but were the slowest by far. We have also been learning about the different elements of the school badge and have begun to make a 3D version to go up on one of our display boards.  More photos

This week we have been exploring materials including making paper and squeezing and moulding using our fine motor skills. We have also had lots of fun counting and sorting, finding matching sets in our new maths learning. If you ask the children they will be able to tell you all about Little Red Hen's story using actions too.

We are very proud of how the children are adapting to their routine. Well done Hedgehogs! Photo gallery

Year 1 News

We have been learning about Neil Armstrong’s mission to the moon. We found out the key facts and then used drama to recreate them. First, we practised wearing our ‘space gloves’ to complete some activities and practised walking on stilts. We then put on our space helmets, boarded the Apollo 11 and took off to the moon. Once we arrived on the moon we walked on the craters and collected some moon rocks before returning back to Earth.

We have also enjoyed using our continuous provision to make rockets and space centres using construction toys.  More photos

Year 2 News

This term in RE we have been learning about the Jewish festival of Chanukah. Last week we learned about the miracle of the oil and what this story teaches Jewish people about God. This week we held our very own Chanukah celebrations! This included making our own menorahs, playing dreidel and learning about the special foods used to celebrate.

Year 3 News

In computing we have been bringing to life our drawings using our IT skills and in PE we have been working on teamwork using symbols to show mapped areas which we built in teams. We have been continuing to work on our handwriting using Kinetic letters. We will be starting to track our fantastic improvement on a weekly basis moving some of our morning work to sheets allowing us to monitor and celebrate our progression as the year goes by. Year 4 News

Year 4 have had a wonderful fortnight, full of lots of learning, well done everyone! We are enjoying being historians and starting to explore Ancient Egypt, finding out all about Tutankhamun. In science we have been investigating electrical circuits and explaining how they work. On Friday afternoons we have started to learn to play the violin or the cello. We have now had two sessions and we are thoroughly enjoying it! Read lots more news here

Year 5 News

In science, we’ve had some creative fun! We used the cream in cookies to depict the different phases of the moon, which was both a unique and tasty way to visualise our learning. The children then explored how night and day occur, and enjoyed presenting their knowledge in dynamic duo presentations, using torches and tennis balls to explain the concept to their peers. It’s been wonderful to see their enthusiasm for this topic! Year 5 gallery

Year 6 News

Year 6 have continued to work hard over the past two weeks. We have now completed our first Independent Write, a diary set during World War Two, and tried our hardest to include a range of grammatic features including colons, semi-colons and expanded noun phrases. Our learning in maths has been focusing on addition and subtraction problems, including missing number problems and tricky “I’m thinking of a number…” based puzzles to solve.

In PE we have developed our passing and tagging skills to play some mini games of TAG-Rugby and we have been learning about the first books in the New Testament, which we now know are called The Gospels.

Forest School News

Year 4 have been experimenting with using foraged materials from Forest School to mark make. They crushed the berries, leaves, mud, flowers etc. they selected and decided whether or not they should add water before using them to draw with. It was a fun collaborative activity as the children shared ideas of which materials were most effective.

Coats 4 Kids Project - Holy Cross Church

This will be the third year we have run it and so far, it has been a great success in providing winter coats, shoes and other garments to Primary school children in and around Daventry. So far, the scheme has been generously supported with individual donations and donations from Daventry Rotary Club and local businesses.

This year we would like to extend an invitation to the Secondary schools in Daventry to take part in the scheme.

Our aim is to serve our community and to help provide a better, caring environment for ALL children.

If you are interested in making a donation to the Coats 4 Kids Scheme you can do so using this link to the Holy Cross Church website: https://www.holycrosschurchdaventry.org.uk/coatsforkids.htm
