Summer Term 2 (24-25)
Year 1 have had a fantastic time in Forest School this term. They have loved spotting all the creatures that have come out to play. We learned about bees and butterflies and the children made bee ponds. They spotted and identified different butterfly species, including a gatekeeper, meadow brown and cabbage white. Pond dipping was a success too and the children found pond snails, whirligig beetles, pond skaters and dragon fly nymphs. It was lovely to see the children choosing to use the litter pickers after our learning about looking after our world this term. To prepare for our end of term fire, the children whittled their own marshmallow sticks using peelers and then roasted marshmallows on the fire. They enjoyed the "sweet, sticky, gooey" treats!
Year 1 had a brilliant day at Twycross Zoo this term. They thoroughly enjoyed spotting all the animals, with the giraffes and tigers being a firm favourite. We were lucky enough to be under the glass tunnel when the tiger was on top, giving us a very close-up view! Everyone loved watching the gibbons swinging and hearing them singing! It was great to hear the children using the vocabulary we have learned in Science - carnivore, herbivore and omnivore. An amazing day was had by all!
