Year 1 have been learning about the properties of materials and testing them to find out whether they are waterproof or not.  We then used what we had discovered to select a waterproof material, to cover a cardboard tube, to make an “underwater base”.  We put a toy animal inside our bases and then submerged the base in a bowl of water to see if it would keep our animal dry.  We all enjoyed launching our underwater base to the Octonauts theme tune!  Ideas that the children had for waterproof materials included plastic bags, cling film and tinfoil.
