Year 3 - Chocolate Rocks

We have continued to build our knowledge of rocks in science.  This week we have been looking at metamorphic and sedimentary rock through chocolate experiments!  Obviously, we resisted eating any of the chocolate but instead used it to explore how rocks are formed.  We initially broke the chocolate into little pieces (whilst in bags) discussing how weather and erosion create sedimentary rocks.  We then applied heat and pressure with our hands to the chocolate and discussed the forming of metamorphic rocks.  All our creations are currently in a freezer to harden and after half-term we will explore the formations by cutting the chocolate to see if layers have formed.
