Summer Term 1 (24-25)

We have had lots of exciting things happen this half-term. In science, we have been learning what animals need to survive. As part of our learning, we made and filled bird feeders that were then hung out by our friends at Forest School. We put a ring of tape at the top level of the food so that after the holiday we will be able to check how much the birds have eaten when we visit the forest school area.

In design and technology, we have been learning about levers and linkages. We discovered that there were many different examples of levers and linkages in our classroom and that these simple mechanisms allow us to do tasks with less effort. Next, the learners explored making linkages from strips of cardboard and split pins. At the beginning of the next term, we will use what we have learnt to design and make a moving monster toy with a mouth that opens and closes.

We have also been very lucky to take part in a workshop to educate us on the dangers of carbon monoxide. This workshop taught us how to keep ourselves safe, and we were all very excited to meet Safety Seymour, the superhero bear whose mission is to rid the world of CO poisoning. We took part in lots of fun activities and took a goody bag home to teach our grown-ups all about it.

Lastly, in PE we have been getting ready for Sports Day, focussing on the correct technique for sprinting, jumping and throwing - we can't wait to show you all!
